‘Chittara’ monthly magazine has shared an inseparable bond with the Kannada film industry for over a decade and a half. A glance through the pages of Chittara’s history reveals ample evidence of this deep connection. By closely tracking the pulse of the Kannada cinema industry, sharing its developments with readers, raising alarms when needed, and viewing cinema both as a form of entertainment and a serious business, Chittara has maintained its editorial integrity.
In 2019, it created a magnificent platform—Chittara Star Awards—to encourage and celebrate the world of Sandalwood. Right from its very first edition, the event was colorful, grand, and meaningful. Now, in its fifth edition, the event has received tremendous response. Notably, acclaimed actor Sri Unni Mukundan has been honored with the Chittara South Icon–2025 award.
He made a lasting impression on audiences through the Tamil film Seedan. After portraying several minor roles, Unni Mukundan delivered multiple superhit films such as Vikramadithyan, SMILE, Achayans, Malikappuram, and Marco.
With performances in Janatha Garage (Telugu) and Garudan (Tamil), he emerged as a celebrated multilingual actor. His production Meppadiyan earned him a National Award, marking his excellence as a producer as well.
The film Mallu Singh, directed by Vysakh, became a milestone in his career. Celebrating 100 days at the box office, it catapulted Unni to superstar status. In Achayans, he gained attention as a lyricist and singer, while his role as the antagonist in Masterpiece, alongside megastar Mammootty, proved his versatility as an actor.
His performance in Malikappuram, a film highlighting the divine power of Lord Ayyappa, won the hearts of devout audiences. His latest release Marco, which crossed ₹100 crore in collections, elevated him to the ranks of a Pan-India star.
With the ability to effortlessly embody any character, Unni Mukundan continues to impress. In recognition of his immense talent and ever-growing impact, Chittara proudly honors him with the CHITTARA SOUTH ICON–2025 award.
